As an entrepreneur myself, I am very passionate about supporting local entrepreneurs. Come meet Theraun Mixon, owner and Sensei of Japan Karate Institute (JKI) – James Island. He explains his passion for karate, inspiration for entrepreneurship, and affection for the city of Charleston.
Describe your business
At our core, we're not just teaching techniques; we're fostering a community where discipline, respect, and personal growth intertwine seamlessly. Our programs are meticulously designed to imbue you with real-world self-defense skills while instilling unwavering confidence, mental fortitude, and physical resilience – attributes that transcend the dojo and resonate in every facet of life.
What inspires you about karate?
“What truly drives my inspiration for what I do is my undying desire to help people achieve their goals in any way possible. Karate develops structural attributes in us all, which are key factors in developing one’s passion for what they do.”
What would your customers say they love most about your business?
The families that I work with enjoy the expertise, discipline, and professionalism of our instructors. Every instructor is carefully chosen and trained to exemplify key core values. Families also say that they enjoy the structure of the courses and how they set a solid foundation for their children.
What are your goals over the next year?
My business goals for the next year is to ensure that my student clientele increases 75% more than this year. Though our numbers have been steadily increasing, this is always my ultimate goal, which is to more than double my student count. By doing this, it ensures longevity and my purpose for spreading karate throughout the James Island, Johns Island, and Downtown areas.
